What are the best size photos for your website?
The size of your photos used on your website will greatly impact the speed of your website - which ultimately impacts the SEO. Too big of photos and your site runs really slow depending on how many images your site has. Too small of photos and they are terrible quality.
Here's what I recommend:
Horizontal photos: 1500 pixels in width
Vertical photos: 1500 pixels in height
Here are the steps in changing the image size in photoshop. See the image below. Super simple task!
Open up your image in Photoshop
In the menu bar, click Image dropdown
Select Image Size
Make sure the settings are set to pixels and change the width to 1500 (horizontal image) or height to 1500 (vertical image)
Then, when you go to save them as jpegs, make sure the file size is no larger than 500kb. You can do this in Photoshop by scaling down the quality when you go to save it.
Select File -> Save as in the menu bar
Make sure the file type is JPEG if it’s not a transparent image
In the JPEG Options, use the indicator (shown in the teal box in the image below) to size down the image to a quality that gets your image size to right around 500K (shown in the purple box in the image below) - it should be around 500KB, it doesn’t have to be exact.
Wa-la! There you have it. Here’s a quick video on how to do this step-by-step.
Do you have a ton of photos that need to be resized and it would take forever to do one-by-one?
