1. Keep it simple.

This is not the time to get fancy with your calls to action. Plain, short, straightforward CTAs generate the best results because they are clear and easy to understand. Common and effective CTAs include:

  • Subscribe

  • Download Now

  • Take the Quiz

  • Get on the List

  • Tell Me More

Pro tip: Feel free to add exclamation points or question marks to your CTAs. Anything that helps them stand out or gets customers excited about your product or service is a plus!

2. Keep CTA Wording Consistent Across your Website.

You may be tempted to come up with a unique CTA for each page but this can actually backfire by confusing visitors. This is especially important if you have multiple action options on your site such as Subscribe, Contact Us, or Buy Now options. It's okay for sales CTAs and opt-in CTAs to differ from one another but every sales page should have the same sales CTA and every contact or opt-in option should have the same contact/opt-in CTA. 

Pro tip: Limiting the number of different CTAs on your website makes it easier for visitors to understand where to go and what to do. Ideally, all of your CTAs should lead your visitors through your sales or lead generation funnel. 

3. Speak Your Customers' Language.

This goes for the entire website. Your content, including your CTAs, should resonate with your customers. CTAs should sound like them, use words they would use, and include an action word.

Pro tip: You can gain great insights into your customers by reviewing testimonials. What words do they use? How formal is the language? If you have a sales team or front-line staff who regularly interact with your customers, ask their advice on CTA wording if you get stuck.

4. Make Your CTA's Stand Out Visually.

Your Squarespace CTA buttons should be easily identifiable. Give them some breathing room at the end of your blog post and make them an actual button, not inline text. Again, this makes it very easy for readers to see where they need to click to take action.
